Educational Facilities
Community needs are the heart of Marine Drive Academy.
The brand new, state-of-the-art school has about 275 students attending Pre-primary to Grade 12, 18% of whom have Mi'kmaw roots.
The student body was involved in shaping the function of the school with an emphasis on the aspects of education important to them: shop technology, textiles, nutrition, art, music, and drama along with the fundamental three Rs.
"The ability to move quickly from classroom to project space extends the teaching time, and they [the students] are learning in both places."

Innovative Spaces
Place making the creative spaces in a central location, the building is all about options. Teachers have flexibility to stay in the adjacent widened corridor, dubbed a learning street. They maintained supervision through clear dividers, which can be shuttered with sliding white board screens.

On the upper level, da Vinci Space, is a breakout area, where, as in Leonardo's notebooks, science and art meet. Adjacent to the lobby, stepped seating leads to the raised music room, creating a natural stage and socializing space. The drama and music rooms interconnect, inviting shared activities. The library also sprawls into corridors inviting students to engage in readily available books.

Gender non-specific washrooms and gym change room compartments are popular with students, too.
